Case Study

The Jesmond

A new prestigious retail and office development has just opened in a leafy prime location to the north of Newcastle City Centre in Jesmond. On the site of the locally famous and iconic Jesmond cinema built in the art deco period, the new building’s clever design takes a bow to it’s predecessor. Sainsbury have occupied the ground floor to service a bustling local population.

Assure Building Control were involved in the approval of the building over a six year period though concept to reality as the strategy developed through an intricate planning process. Now complete the development offers open plan office space across three floors serviced by basement and roof based plant. The structure is founded on a contiguous piling ring which doubles as the retaing wall to form the basement.

The main walls are formed from an insulated lightweight cold rolled steel framework with a rendered finish to form the external membrane. Assure Building Control are proud to have been part of the development of the latest prominent and significant building in Newcastle.
